General Information

The Building and Planning Department is a division of the Public Works Department.  This department is responsible for permits, site development, land subdivision, zoning, floodplain development, contractor licensing, and GIS. 

Our inspection staff works closely with builders and citizens throughout all construction or alteration projects.  They perform plan reviews, issue permits, provide inspections, and monitor compliance with the erosion control regulations for construction sites.  For guidance on what types of projects require permits, please click here.

The Building & Planning Superintendent serves as staff liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Aldermen for all issues regarding land subdivision, alteration of existing lot lines, and zoning.  She also serves as staff liaison to the Board of Adjustment for issues regarding zoning variances.
