11-15-13  The City of Jackson recently received the plans for the center from Incite Design, the architectural firm selected for the project.  Specifications will be sent to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for completion of the safe room grant approval.  Once approval is given, bids  requests will be sent out.  The City anticipates that construction could begin in the early summer of 2014.

4-15-14 The City’s architect (Incite Design Studio) has submitted plans, specifications and other documents to FEMA, along with the request for additional funding for the safe room.  We expect to receive notification in late April from the state on the extra funding request, but they require significant review time on the plans.  Once the approved plans return from FEMA, the City will begin its plan review process and issue building permits.
Despite the small delays we’ve experience thus far during the design process, the project remains close to the original schedule with the issuance of final construction drawings in late Spring, followed by bidding and construction in the late summer and early fall.

7-15-14 Staff continues awaiting approval from FEMA on the safe room.  The architect believes that our project will be included in the July batch of approvals.  In the meantime, the Building & Planning and Fire Department staffers recently received the final plans and specifications and are in the process of plan review.  We are being aggressive with our permit review process so that we can immediately put the building out to bid just as soon as we receive FEMA approval.

7-22-14 City officials have been notified that FEMA has approved Phase II funding for the Tornado Safe Room portion of the new Jackson Community Center project.

Last month, the City received plans and specifications for the entire facility from the architectural firm Incite Design Studio of Kansas City, Missouri. The building permit review process has since been completed and permits are ready to be issued for construction. The City remains optimistic that it can issue bids for construction in August, review the submittals, and award a contract by late September. A tentative date for a groundbreaking ceremony could take place at the end of October.

9-24-14 Bids were opened on August 27.  There were a total of eight bids on the project.  Brockmiller Construction, Inc. of Farmington, Missouri bid the project at $5,677,100.00 and was awarded the contract by the Board of Aldermen at the September 22 meeting.  Construction is set to begin in October.  Completion of the project is estimated to be sometime in October 2015.  Once staff finalizes all of the contract documentation and conducts a pre-construction meeting, a groundbreaking ceremony will be held.   Brockmiller Construction, Inc. of Farmington, Missouri was the low bidder at $5,677,100.00. Board of Aldermen awarded contract to Brockmiller at the 9/22 regular meeting. Brockmiller Construction, Inc. of Farmington, Missouri was the low bidder at $5,677,100.00.
