JPD announces CALEA Review
Chief James Humphreys announced today that a Compliance Service Member (CSM) for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®) will conduct an annual review Friday, February 17, 2023 through Saturday, February 25, 2023, to examine all aspects of the Jackson Police Department’s policies, procedures, operations and support services.
Verification by the Compliance Service Member that the Jackson Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to maintain accreditation; a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence.
As part of the annual review, CALEA is now offering a web-based portal for the public to comment on the agency's compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns.
Those wishing to offer comments are asked to visit https://cimrs2.calea.org . Then “Search for Agency” or “Find Agency by Location”.
The CALEA Accreditation Manager for the Jackson Police Department is Corporal Rick Whitaker. According to Corporal Whitaker it is important to note that CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgment of submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation. According to Corporal Whitaker, CALEA Accreditation is the Gold Standard for Public Safety Agencies and represents the department’s commitment to excellence.
For further information regarding the standards or the CALEA Accreditation process, please contact Corporal Rick Whitaker at 573-243-3151, ext 2111 or email at whitaker@jacksonpd.org.
