  2. Celebrate Independence Day in the Jackson City Park

    Celebrate with your family and friends at the Parks and Recreation’s Annual July 4th Celebration in the Jackson City Park.  This day of family fun is open to the public and will take place on Sunday, July 4th, from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.  The fireworks show begins at 9:30 p.m.  Admission and parking is free.

     

    Jackson’s July 4th Celebration, which for decades has been one of the best Independence Day events in the area, is back again this year with fun-filled events and activities for everyone.  The celebration, which begins with a 5K walk/run at 7:04 a.m., will include music, cars, and food vendors preceding a great fireworks display.  Mud volleyball also returns this year with another double-elimination co-ed tournament.

    Schedule of Events:

    Independence Day 5K Walk/Run & Children’s Fun Run

    Begins at 7:04 a.m.

     

    Celebrate patriotism and fitness with more than 100 participants who will take to the streets for the annual 5K walk/run and children’s fun run.  The start and finish line will be at Southeast HealthPoint Fitness located at 414 W. Main St.  The event is set up so that every age and ability can compete and have a great time.  Celebrate the start to the holiday with some physical activity and support Southeast Health’s Children's Health and Wellness.  Registration is $28.00 before race day, $30.00 on race day, and includes a t-shirt and giveaway bag.  There will be awards for 1st – 3rd place in each age group.  For more information, please call HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson (573) 755-2301 or visit sehealth.org.

     

    Mud Volleyball Tournament

    Begins at 8:00 a.m.

     

    Sponsored by the City of Jackson Independence Day Celebration Committee, the 2021 Mud Volleyball Tournament is a double-elimination co-ed contest with teams competing for cash prizes.  There is a $200.00 entry fee per team.  Participants must be at least 18 years of age or a 2021 high school graduate to compete.  Cash prizes to the top four teams.  Go to www.jacksonmo.org for registration information or contact Jason Mouser at 573-576-8709.  Entry fees go to support the Jackson Lady Indians High School Volleyball Program and the fireworks display.

     

    Helicopter Rides

    8:00 a.m.

     

    Have you ever wanted to take a scenic helicopter ride over Jackson from high above?  Now you can.  For just $35.00 per person, you can see the City of Beautiful Homes, Churches, Schools, and Parks a whole new way in a helicopter ride from Cape Copters.  Rides will lift-off and touch-down all day long on Legion Field at the corner of N. Union Ave. and W. Mary St.  $5.00 from each ride goes to support the fireworks display.

     

    Car Show

    9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

     

    Pristine cars and trucks of all makes, models, colors, and years will be on display throughout the day.  Sponsored by the Cape Capaha Antique Car Club, the annual car show attracts participants from across the region and is the mainstay of the celebration.  Over 150 cars from Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, and Arkansas are shown each year.  Trophies are given out for first, second, and third place in each category.

     


    Stooges Restaurant Beer Garden

    9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

     

    Sponsored by Stooges Restaurant, the beer garden is enclosed in Shelter No. 1.  Tickets for beer can be purchased at the entrance to the garden after proper identification is shown.  Proceeds go to help support the fireworks display.  The enclosed beer garden area will be the only area where beer can be purchased and consumed during the day.

     

    Food Stands

    Open at 9:00 a.m.

     

    Throughout the day, take time to visit all the food stands and vending booths located along Parkview St., as well as enjoy a leisurely stroll through the park.  Sink your teeth into some of the best local foods, including hot dogs, hamburgers, barbeque sandwiches, and much more.  Sodas, bottled water, lemonade, and sno-cones will also be available to purchase.

     

    Live Entertainment:  Shades of Soul

    7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m

     

    Sponsored by the Jackson Municipal Band, the local music group Shades of Soul will kick off the evening with live entertainment at the Niclous Leist Memorial Band Shell on Symphony Dr.  For more information, check out the band’s Facebook page at

    Fireworks Display

    Begins at 9:30 p.m.

    To cap off a perfect holiday evening, the crowd will be treated to a spectacular 20-minute fireworks show.  Spectators can bring chairs, blankets, and picnic foods.  The fireworks display is presented by the City of Jackson through its Independence Day Celebration Committee.

     

     


    Road Closures and Parking

    Free parking will be provided at the corner of N. Union Ave. and Parkview St. in the City Park and can be easily accessed from N. Union Ave. near the Pavilion No. 3.  Several areas in and around City Park will be closed to vehicular traffic, including Parkview St. between N. High St. and N. Union Ave.  Additionally, many areas will be posted as ‘no parking’ zones.  Vehicles parked in such zones could be towed at the owner’s expense.  Attendees are encouraged to respect surrounding neighborhoods and businesses by using public parking lots and spaces.  After the fireworks display, motorists are urged to be patient when exiting the area.  Police officers will be posted at all major intersections to aid in clearing the traffic.

     

    Restrictions

     

    ABSOLUTELY NO DOGS, GLASS CONTAINERS, OR COOLERS ARE ALLOWED IN CITY PARK ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT.  Any person violating these ordinances will be asked to leave.

     

    The Annual Independence Day Celebration is presented by City of Jackson through its Parks and Recreation Department and the Independence Day Celebration Committee.
