  2. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the New Roundabout Project

The City of Jackson, the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, and Montgomery Bank cordially invite the public to a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a new traffic roundabout at the intersection of E. Main St. and Shawnee Blvd.  The ceremony will be held on Monday, August 3rd, at 10:00 a.m., at the project site.

Construction work on this project began in December of last year by Lappe Cement Finishing, Inc. of Friedheim, Missouri, through a contract with the City in the amount of $762,042.21.  The improvements included a concrete roundabout, grading, pavement, storm water controls, sidewalks, striping, street lighting, and significant utility improvements to water and sewer lines.  It was designed and inspected by the firm of Cochran Engineering of Farmington, Missouri.

This is the second roundabout in Jackson and was built to relieve traffic congestion at this busy intersection and improve access to East Elementary School, Litz Park, local businesses, residential subdivisions, and nearby emergency facilities.

The City of Jackson also recognizes and publicly thanks Montgomery Bank as the adopting organization for the central island of the roundabout.  Through the City’s Adopt-A-Street Program, they quickly recognized the need for providing a visually-improved site and contributed greatly toward the effort of providing a cleaner and more beautiful final product.  Beautification of the island includes a flagpole and landscaping, including landscape fabric, plants, shrubs, bushes, rock, and edging.

The ceremony will be held safely on the sidewalk in the northeast quadrant of the new roundabout.

Parking for the event is available only along both sides of  E. Main St. on the eastern side of the roundabout for the most convenient access point to the ceremony.  Limited parking is also available on both sides of Tracy Street, which is the first street west of the roundabout.  Attendees are asked not to park along E. Main St. west of the roundabout or anywhere along Shawnee Blvd.

Guests should acknowledge that there is a risk of exposure to COVID-19 at the event.  If you have been sick in the past two weeks, avoid attending the ceremony.

We ask that you please remember the virus isn't over.

    ·         Stay 6' apart or more in public

    ·         Wear masks (cover nose/mouth) to protect others

    ·         Wash hands, surfaces, and common items regularly
