Jackson Waiving Late Fee Penalties to Utility Customers
In an effort to provide financial
relief during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Jackson will be waiving fees
for late payment penalties to City customers on the March 1, April 1, and May
1, 2020 utility bills.
Last month, the City had previously
announced it was temporarily stopping suspensions of service for non-payment as
a way to help customers deal with coronavirus impacts.
“The Mayor and Board
of Aldermen recognized the importance of waiving late fees for their customers
during this difficult and continually evolving coronavirus situation,” said City
Administrator James Roach. “Managing the
effects of the COVID-19 pandemic has been a fluid process and the elected and
appointed officials have been working together to ensure continued service without
fear of disconnects or penalty charges in the event customers experience hardships
during this health crisis.”
Customers are
reminded they are responsible for electricity, water, and sewer used during
this time and should make every attempt to pay, if possible, even a partial
payment.
After the June 1 utility
bill is distributed, the City will notify the public when normal operations for
penalties and cut-off procedures will resume.
The City urges
customers to reach out to their utility providers with any questions about late
payment fees and services available during the COVID-19 pandemic.
