  2. Walk Jackson Challenge 2020 to Promote Public Works

The Jackson Public Works Department challenges you to Walk Jackson.  The Walk Jackson Challenge 2020 will promote Public Works while encouraging everyone to get out and learn their Ward while getting some exercise.

Through the Walk Jackson Challenge 2020 we hope to educate our citizens about their Wards and the services that Public Works provides.  Everyone is asked to report any issues they see with our street, water, electric, stormwater, or wastewater utilities to the Public Works Department at 573-243-2300 any time 24/7, or by clicking Contact Us on www.jacksonmo.org.

The challenge begins on Monday, June 1st and runs 7 weeks through July 17th.  Starting May 18th there will be a pre-event registration on our website at Registration Form by filling out the Registration Form and printing out the Official Rules and Mileage Tracking Sheet, or by picking up the forms at Public Works in City Hall.  You may continue to register after June 1st, but the first 50 registrations will receive a free Walk Jackson Challenge 2020 t-shirt.

Use the Mileage Tracking Sheet to record your progress and turn it in to Public Works by July 17th with at least 25 miles to receive a Certificate of Completion.  Everyone that registers is entered for the Grand Prize Drawing.

Our smallest Ward has 25 miles of streets while the entire City has 133 miles.  To complete the challenge you must record at least 25 miles in just under 7 weeks on the Mileage Tracking Sheet.  Or you can attempt to complete the equivalent of the entire City!  You do not have to walk every street, but you are encouraged to walk as much of the City as practical.  We have many great trails, sidewalks, parks, and neighborhoods to enjoy.

In this time of COVID-19, we ask that all walkers be safe and respect everyone else’s right to be safe by maintaining a safe distance.  Please be aware of your surroundings and wear bright colors while walking.  Last year we hid red rocks around town for additional prizes.  We are not doing that this year due to the risk of COVID-19.
