  2. City Hall Temporarily Closed to Public Access

The City of Jackson is responding to COVID-19 recommendations by taking additional steps to ensure the health of our community and staff.  As the coronavirus disease continues to spread, the City is taking additional precautions to address the outbreak by following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Administration has decided it is in the best interest of public health to close City Hall to the public.  Prevention is key and this is the appropriate action to take now.  The closure will begin Tuesday, March 24, 2020 and last through Monday, April 6, 2020.  We believe that this decision is ultimately the best course of action to protect the health of all concerned.

During this time, we encourage customers to handle City business through phone and email, as well as our available online services.  City Hall will remain operational and staff will continue to provide essential City services like permits, business license applications, and utility payments, but customers are required to use the drive-through lanes at City Hall, our online bill pay option, or conduct business over the phone and via email.  The City intends to leverage all available technology in order to allow residents and businesses to continue to conduct business with the City.

If appointments to visit an employee or official inside the building cannot be canceled, postponed, or conducted over phone or email, customers may phone City Hall and request entry.  If entry is permitted, it will be at the handicapped-accessible exterior door on W. Main St.

As a reminder, City Hall can be reached by phone at 573-243-3568 or by fax at 573-243-3322 or 573-243-4588.  Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Customers may also phone the Public Works Department at 573-243-2300 for utility outages/issues as this line is answered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Public safety (police and fire), municipal utilities, and infrastructure services remain active 24/7 and operate with continuous service.  There are no changes to emergency services or trash/recycling collection.

Here is a current list of the City facilities that are closed to public access through April 6:

    ·         Jackson City Hall, all offices including the Collector’s Office and Municipal Court

    ·         Jackson Civic Center

    ·         Jackson Police Station - lobby

    ·         Jackson Fire Stations #1 and #2 - lobby

Given that this is a rapidly developing situation, we will continue to monitor developments and update our course of action as new information becomes available through the CDC.

These additional steps are in response to the Missouri Governor Mike Parson’s COVID-19 order to limit public gatherings of 10 people and social distancing of six feet between individuals.  This is a situation with a lot of moving parts, and City staff and elected leaders are monitoring it closely.  All updates will be posted on and our Facebook page at

The City of Jackson’s responsibility is to help keep our residents safe and provide vital services.  Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.
