  2. Contractors Licenses and Building Permits Required in Jackson

Contractor’s License RequiredAll contractors working within the city must be licensed.  Licenses can be obtained at City Hall by all contractors and tree trimmers working inside city limits.

Companies with employees must provide proof of workmen’s comp insurance to obtain a license.  Contractors who are not required by law to carry workmen’s comp insurance may sign a waiver.

Tree trimmers need a merchant’s license (first floor of City Hall).

Building contractors need a contractor’s license (second floor of City Hall).

Building Permits RequiredPermits are required for electrical repairs and all other building repair construction.  Permits may be obtained at the Public Works Department (second floor of City Hall).

Re-roofing that involves re-framing or re-decking the roof needs a building permit.

Replacement or installation of awnings, porches, decks, fences, pergolas, portable sheds, carports, gazebos, and pools installed for more than summer, etc. also require building permits.

Permit fees for storm-related repair work are currently being waived.
