  2. City Provides Assistance in Removing Storm Debris

For residents and businesses hit by Friday’s severe storm event, the City is providing assistance in helping to remove storm debris from damaged properties.  Effective immediately, customers can place storm debris at curbside for City collection.  The debris must be pushed to the street curbside by the property owners in order for the City to pick it up.

Storm debris is defined as tree limbs, brush, and yard waste which was downed by the storm.  For a limited time, the City will collect storm debris only after the property owner has pushed it to within ten (10) feet of the street pavement or curb line.  Storm debris does not include building materials.

As an alternative to placing it curbside for collection, the City is also offering a special location near the Recycling Center for those customers wishing to immediately dispose of their storm debris.  Customers may bring the storm debris to the yard waste pits at the Recycling Center (located at 508 Eastview Court) daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., including Saturday and Sunday this weekend.  Customers must show either a driver’s license or Jackson utility bill to verify the debris is from a location within the city limits.  Workers will be on hand to direct customers to the proper drop off location and to check identification.  This facility will not accept storm debris from commercial contractors.

Only residents and businesses affected by the storm can participate in this special collection program.

Since collection times will vary, the City reminds all affected property owners who have storm debris to be removed from their curbsides to please be patient as work crews conduct collection operations in their neighborhoods.  Crews will work diligently to remove all of the debris.
